Travel to Bair Island and Adranan Island: Hidden Paradise in Eastern Indonesia By [Nuraini Fitria]

On the way to these islands, we passed clear blue water with shades of turquoise and deep blue. Usually, people visit Bair Island first, then stop at Adranan Island on the way back. Bair Island is in Tual City, Maluku Province. Not many people know about it, but now more people are comparing it to the famous Raja Ampat in West Papua.

Adranan Island is small and empty, with soft white sand around it. You can walk around the whole island in about ten minutes. When we visited in 2022, the tide was high, so the beach looked smaller. My friends and I, from our boarding house, decided to visit both Adranan and Bair Islands during the holiday. These two are some of the most beautiful islands in the Kei Islands. They are so unique that people can tell where they are just from a picture.

To reach the islands, we had to ride a speedboat for the first time. Before that, we went to Dullah to meet our boat captain. Our car stopped near a small shop at the beach. We walked about 200 meters and saw a boat being refueled. Two local men came to greet us—they were our boat captains. That boat would take us to the islands.

First, we went to Bair Island. One by one, we got on the boat. When it started moving, the engine noise broke the silence. The waves moved the boat, and sea water splashed on our faces. It felt a little annoying but also fun. As we got closer, the island looked bigger. We saw a sign on a rock that said “Bair Island.” The boat passed a small wooden pier where people often take photos. The views were amazing—big rocks with small trees on top. I felt very happy to see nature’s beauty. We took many pictures. After swimming and walking around for about three hours, we went to Adranan Island.

Adranan Island is also called “Bird Island” because many birds live there. It’s a great place for people who love nature. The sea around it is full of colorful coral and fish, which is perfect for diving. The peaceful and quiet beach is also nice for camping. When we arrived, we ate lunch because we were very hungry after the visit to Bair. Some of us took photos, and some walked around the island. Time passed quickly, and soon we had to go back to Kei Kecil.

We waved goodbye to Adranan Island and returned to Dullah. This trip was amazing and will always be in my memory. Bair Island was very beautiful. I hope I can visit again someday. This trip was not only fun, but also a reminder to protect nature and respect local culture. Let’s visit not only to see the beauty, but also to care for and protect it.
